Gays and lesbians will find Austin a very tolerant city. Although it’s smack in the middle of Texas, this progressive town is liberal in its attitudes. Gay and lesbian travelers will feel right at home. There are several gay and lesbian hot spots scattered around the capital city, including Charlie’s (one of the oldest) and the recently opened Boyz Cellar.

As far as accommodations are concerned, gays and lesbians will feel comfortable staying practically anywhere in Austin. There are a number of B&Bs and guesthouses that are specifically gay-friendly, including the Miller Crockett House just south of downtown Austin-over the bridge. Others include the Summit House and the Driskill.
