Austin is the “Live Music Capital of the World.” It’s pretty much safe to say that the Texas capital is defined by its music. You’ll get a daily dose of live music -- from country to Blues - all year long. Austin boasts more restaurants and bars per capita than any other city nationwide. And, when you’re strolling down Sixth Street, you’ll hear it all.
Such greats as Stevie Ray Vaughan, the late Janis Joplin, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Willie Nelson have played in Austin. And, every March, Austin hosts South by Southwest Music and Media Conference, a venue for music critics, producers and more than 600 musical acts. If you live for music, this is a great time to visit Austin. Let’s not forget Austin City Limits, the PBS television program that showcases such artists as Sheryl Crow and Shawn Colvin. Austin City Limits is a place where music lovers can see and hear many critically acclaimed musicians and bands-many who don’t get much air time.
If you are coming to Austin for the music, you might find downtown digs the most convenient. Obviously Sixth Street is the pulse of Austin’s music scene, so a stay at one of the many hotels in close proximity is a smart idea. Besides, those live music acts can last until the wee hours of the morning.
